WHAT WE DO

Promote

  • We want to promote an understanding of the outdoors for everyone – not just gardening and nature but wildlife, food and sustainable living

  • All of our outdoor activities – whether in schools or community centres – appeal to young and old alike

  • We have worked across Wandsworth (and as far afield as London Zoo!) in primary schools, churches, care homes and Springfield Hospital

  • We mind what we eat!  Too many of us are inactive and know little about nutrition.  We run healthy eating, cooking and nutrition classes for Westminster Adult Education Services and South Thames College

Develop

  • We lead the physical re-development of garden spaces in schools, churches and community centres and are experienced fund-raisers to help pay for them

  • We are all about community integration – there are so many green community spaces for us to share

  • Collaboration – our weekend gardening clubs are open to all, offering companionship and the opportunity to meet new friends.   They are an excellent way for minority groups or simply newcomers to get to know each other and learn new skills

  • We volunteer at Kew, collaborate nationally with the RHS, National Trust and Linnean Society and locally with Transition Town Tooting, Beautify Balham and Natural Thinkers.

Inspire

  • We are convinced of the benefit of outdoor learning for those most in need – the benefits which come with relaxing outdoors for those with mental health issues are very well documented

  • Not everyone has a garden.  We give those who don’t the chance to be outdoors and teach what to do in the garden

  • Our activities are enjoyed by people of all ages, however inactive or disadvantaged.   For children (and especially those with communication difficulties), being creative outdoors replaces creativity which is being lost in so many other areas.  This can be through Forest School activities, formal gardening or outdoor art workshops

  •   Healthy living should be – and is above all – fun!!
